Knightsbridge Dual Band Chinstrap

The Dual Band Chinstrap contains Latex (38% in the White Elastic Strap) and is NOT recommended for people with Latex Allergies. The Dual Band Chinstrap keeps the mouth closed when you are using a nasal or nasal pillow mask for CPAP therapy. The pressure delivered from your sleep apnea therapy device can cause the mouth to open, especially if you are prescribed a higher setting.

Air leaks severely reduce the effects of your prescribed CPAP therapy, causing you to wake up with a dry mouth, feeling tired, and needing more rest. Other options to consider for eliminating mouth breathing would be to try a full-face-style CPAP mask that covers the nose and the mouth. Waking with mouth dryness can be an indicator that your mouth is falling open during sleep.

Special Features:

  • Dual Bands: The Non-elastic blue band prevents the jaw from lowering keeping the mouth closed. The elastic white band provides gentle upwards force and the compound elastic-nonelastic force allows pressure to be minimized while still being effective.
  • Vertical Lift: The bands lift from under the jaw while attaching at the temples to produce a vertical force. (Unlike the neoprene chinstraps which wrap around the tip of the chin and push the jaw directly into the jaw joint.) Vertical lift works with the natural rotation of the jaw.
  • Comfortable: Washable. Lightweight, breathable net-mesh cap.

Why Use a Chin Strap?

Are You a Mouth Breather? If you wake up with a dry mouth or throat, it may mean you are mouth breathing, and a chin strap can help keep your mouth shut.

High CPAP Pressures Cause Air Leakage: A partner may notice air escaping your mouth, or you might experience snoring. A chin strap helps maintain a proper seal by preventing this.

Mask Stability: It can help stabilize a CPAP mask or prevent you from taking it off while partially asleep.

How to Use a Chin Strap

The Right Fit: Ensure the strap is snug but not too tight. Overly tight straps can cause discomfort, breathing issues, jaw misalignment, or make TMJ symptoms worse.

Facial Hair Users: If you have a beard, you may need a larger size with a bigger chin cup and wider straps.

Ask Your Doctor: A doctor or sleep specialist can help determine if a chin strap is appropriate and can address any underlying issues, like nasal congestion that makes it hard to breathe through the nose.

Chin Strap Warnings

Must Be Used with CPAP: A chin strap is not a treatment for sleep apnea on its own. It must be used with a CPAP machine.

Possible Side Effects: Discomfort, jaw soreness, or skin irritation can occur. If the strap causes pain or breathing difficulties, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider.
