CPAP Machines and CPAP Masks Cleaning and Maintenance Schedule

  • Daily care of your CPAP equipment and accessories:
    1. Clean your CPAP mask or nasal pillows using a fragrance free shampoo (baby shampoo works great) or warm soapy water.  Rinse and then let air dry.
    2. Never use alcohol on your CPAP masks or nasal pillows, it may break down the material.
    3. Empty your humidifier and then let it air dry.
    4. Be sure to always use distilled water in your humidifier to avoid mineral deposit build-up.
    5. In the case of illness, chamber and other parts should be disinfected with straight white vinegar, and then rinsed with water.
  • Weekly care of your CPAP equipment and accessories:
    1. Wash headgear with warm soapy water, rinse and let air dry.  Do not put in washer and dryer.
    2. Wash tubing in warm soapy water, rinse and air dry.
    3. Wipe the machine with a soft, damp cloth or CPAP disinfectant wipes.
    4. Wash water chamber with warm water and straight white vinegar, rinse and let air dry.  This will also help rid accessories of plastic odor.
  • Monthly care of equipment:
    1. Check your air filter.
    2. Check the integrity of your mask
    3. Check your tubing for any potential leaks (especially if you have pets)
